10 best experiences of 2013/14 travel
In this series I want to share with you my top 10 travel experiences of last year. I will be writing about them in no particular order, just however they decide to pop into my head.
My first one of the series is dedicated to Japan. I have to write about Japan first. It is such a beautiful place.
Martin and I spent two weeks touring around Japan in a crowded mini bus driven by a man named Mochan. There were fellow travellers on the minibus from France, Portugal, Sweden, Guatemala, Singapore and Malaysia. It was the best trip ever!
Mochan dedicates his life to showing off his beautiful country. In Mochan’s minibus, we travelled across Japan and slept in a variety of hostels as well as on friends’ floors and Mochan’s house. We got to see the sights of Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka. I think one of the reasons why I enjoyed Japan so much was because we explored the country in a different way to our normal hostel to hostel route. We got to experience things we never thought we would get to do. We visited Mochan’s Aunt who spent all afternoon dressing us up in Kimono’s and the following day was spent relaxing in a Sento – a traditional Japanese bath house where everyone gets in naked (don’t worry, men and women were separate) and one of my favourites, a most glorious day having a picnic in the park with fascinating views of mount Fuji.
Sharing all of these experiences with a group of like minded people made it even more worthwhile.
We decided to join Mochan’s Wish Club tour because Japan had always been a place on our list to visit. But considering the seriously tight budget, it could have been a tricky task with Japan being a pricey place. However, MWC made our Japanese experience very affordable as well as being one of our best experiences of the entire trip.
I am so glad I did it. I can’t wait to visit Japan again!
