‘There are two ways to get rid of an anxiety monster,my friend-you either have a bath or a nap.” Andrew Kaufman, All My Friends Are Superheroes
Kaufman’s story explores the life of an ordinary bloke named Tom. Recently married to his superhero girlfriend, The Perfectionist, who has been hypnotised by her ex making Tom invisible to her. Now Tom is running out of time to find a way of convincing The Perfectionist that he still exists.
This book is brilliant. I read it in about two hours as it’s really short, a novella I guess. I would have loved for the book to have been longer to find out more about Tom and The Perfectionist and so I could have enjoyed reading it for more hours! It’s a fun read full of imagination and creativity. In the story, superheroes come along in all shapes and sizes including The Spooner (who can sense when sleeping people feel the need to be spooned), The Projectionist (she can make you believe whatever she believes) and The Sloth (who represents what it’s like to be super lazy all the time). These are just a small handful of superheroes you get to learn about. Kaufman has truly brought to life just about every super power possible
This book is perfect for any one wanting something a bit more light hearted to read next or something that is a bit different/ slightly quirky. Or even if you have a spare afternoon then reading this book would be an excellent way to fulfil it.
Dear Andrew Kaufman. Please do a sequel. That would really make my day!
