Summer is fast approaching and finally I have managed a walk to work without the winter coat on. I have my doubts and I’m sure the cold weather will appear once again before we reach the summer months, but we have made it to April and slowly but surely, London is heating up.
Summer 2015 will be my first proper summer in London. Excited much? I have a list the length of my arm of places I still want to see and new foodie places to try out. So I’ve listed just a few things I aim to do over the next 5 or 6 months.
Swim in a Lido
I have seen dozens of photos of happy swimmers lounging around in the sun and taking a dip in the beautiful outdoor swimming pools which London has so many of. I literally spent my entire childhood in swimming pools. After school it was training and then weekends were spent competing in various swimming galas across the UK. There’s something about swimming pools which I just adore. It can’t just be me who loves the smell of Chlorine or the year round tropical temperatures. I have wonderful childhood memories of swimming and any swimming pool I come across takes me straight back there.
Unfortunately, I seem to think I’m a lot braver than I actually am. I hate the cold. The majority of days I feel it’s appropriate to grab another blanket or put on a second (um..third) layer. So when it comes to swimming outside..in England..I have no idea how this is going to pan out. I shall just cross my fingers though and hope that when the time comes, I will be the first in the pool.
Hire a Boris bike
Only once have I cycled around London. My brother took charge and I followed him the entire way. And it was so much fun! It’s amazing how many sights you can fit into your day if you are brave enough to embrace the bicycle. I haven’t been on a Boris bike before but I think they are a fantastic idea, especially for people like me who live in small places with zero bike storage. I really hope to embrace the Boris bike this summer.
Eat a huge slice of NY style pizza
I have wanted to do this since moving to London and I don’t really know why. One of my favourite things about New York is the humongous slices of pizza and the sticky humid temperatures. Grabbing a slice of pizza on a hot summer evening is something I miss and I really want to be able to replicate this. A pretty easy Bucket List challenge which hopefully I will do more than once.
Sit by Camden canal on the sunniest of days
My last challenge, again another easy one. What’s the point of making them difficult? For me, this summer is all about seeing what London has to offer, with minimal effort. I want to join the other hundreds of folk with the same idea as me and just sit by the Camden docks and watch the world go by. In fact it doesn’t have to be Camden, it doesn’t even have to be a canal! Laying down near the water, a cold drink in hand and the sun firing down on me..what could be better than that?
So that’s it. 4 easy Bucket List challenges for summer 2015. Bring it on!
